Recycling paper with the Blue Angel ecolabel

By using 80 tonnes of Blue Angel recycled paper (86%), 14 tonnes of CO2 will be saved for the year 2018 year (emission factors: IFEU). Compared to fresh fibre paper, 2,411,069 litres of water and 496,536 kWh of energy are also saved (Paper Atlas, 2019). There is a university-wide guideline for the use of recycled paper with the Blue Angel and the University of Freiburg has set itself the goal of using 100% recycled paper with the Blue Angel in the next few years.

The University of Freiburg was awarded by the Initiative Pro Recycling Papier (IPR) together with the University of Constance in 2012. The University uses at least 86 percent recycled paper with the Blue Angel label and thus assumes exemplary ecological responsibility for the protection of natural resources.

The University of Freiburg has set itself the goal of using 100% recycled paper bearing the Blue Angel label in the next few years. The Blue Angel guarantees the highest ecological standards and stands for the use of 100% recycled paper, 65% of which is of lower and medium grades, as well as for limiting emissions in laser printing. In this way we take care to use fewer resources and at the same time improve the working conditions of employees who work alongside the printers.
